Setting Smarter Goals
Setting goals are important not just in business but in life. I am sure we have all been told that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to, and that is true! However, you have to set goals and put them in a realistic order for them to get accomplished. When starting a business you have so many ideas running through your head and it is important that you prioritize not only your daily but weekly, monthly and yearly goals.
A lot of times we have large goals and tend to focus on those instead of the daily task. When in actuality it’s the small things that will help you reach your major goal. There are a couple of different ways you can set smarter goals.
Prior to venturing into owning my own business I always found myself being overwhelmed because I was not prepared for my everyday activities. Now that I've been running a business for almost 3 years, I understand the “work smarter not harder” concept. Applying that ideal with others has allowed me to develop a work flow that has perfectly positioned me to achieve my goals.
To-do-lists are a must for me when setting goals. It can be tedious, but it's the very best way to stick to your short and long term goals. When you can see that you are completing your daily goals it not only makes you feel good, but it motivates you to keep going. Of course, there will be days that you do not complete everything on your list but you should try to get as much done as you can. If you do have left over tasks make sure it is the first thing on your list for the next day.
Setting goals in a realistic time manner is also necessary. Major goals take time to accomplish. As women entrepreneurs we dream big! When we sense that we can do something great we like to go “0 to 100” to implement things. However, if we force something that takes time and research we will be disappointed when it does not pan out the way we wish. Remember, greatness does take time and as I stated before it is the little things leading up to the grand finale that matter most.
Vision boards are also a great way to set your goals. For my visual people this is certainly a great way to "see" your goals. I would suggest putting the fun and creative boards in your room so it’s something that you see every day when you wake up and go to sleep. Lastly, I would suggest using all of the resources you can when trying to accomplish goals. I can say that I have done things the “hard” way for a very long time but now I understand if you have help use it. Sometimes, you will need a partner, friend or whatever additional resource to help you set your goals. Do not be afraid to ask for help. Of course it should be someone that you can trust but do not try to do everything by yourself if you do not have to; you have enough on your plate.
Overall, do not stress yourself out because you are not prepared. Using these tactics will assist you in preparing for your business in everyday life.
